Innovation Index: Iowans take SXSW, Pear Deck snags $150K and more innovation Community News for March 16

Email me news and notes.  News and Notes: Several Iowans have been making waves in Austin during South By Southwest Interactive, the sprawling tech conference that wraps up tomorrow: First, big congrats to Iowa City’s Pear Deck for winning the Rise of the Rest pitch competition! Several companies got to advance to Austin after AOL co-founder Steve Case brought his entrepreneurial road trip through the Midwest last summer (although Bawte actually won in Des Moines, so some sort of switch must have happened). The top prize included a $150,000 investment and an appearance alongside Case on CNBC. Find photos via Rise of the Rest on Tumblr. Pear Deck also made it to the final three in the LaunchEDU pitch-off, an ed-tech focused event hosted by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Congrats again and thanks for representing Iowa well! Meanwhile, Rise of the Rest announced it’s third tour, co-produced by Iowa’s own Seed Here Studio, will visit the Southeast in May. (Rise of the Rest) Iowa BIG, the project-based high school located inside Vault Coworking and Collaboration Space, also got a chance to show off.
