“There are going to be 200 to 300 wicked cool, smart people in this building,” Eric Engelmann promised when pitching the Iowa Startup Accelerator at 1 Million Cups in March.
In addition to the 10 accelerator companies, the new building at 415 12th Ave. SE will be home to Geonetric, the 65-person software company Engelmann founded 15 years ago, Vault, Cedar Rapids’ coworking space and entrepreneur hangout, and nearly 100 mentors who will be on hand to help the young accelerator companies.
Suffice it to say, I’m a fan of wicked cool, smart people working together to do cool things.
To that end, We Create Here and the Iowa Startup Accelerator are teaming up for a content partnership. I’ll be writing profiles of the mentors who are donating their time to the accelerator. These stories will live on the Accelerator’s website (see www.iowastartupaccelerator.com/meet-the-mentors) and be used in it’s marketing materials (Iowa City-based Sculpt is handling the social media campaign – see #MeetTheMentors on Twitter and Facebook) – but it’s also an opportunity for We Create Here to share the stories of some of the most innovative and creative minds from our region.
While they’ve started companies and made investments around the world, most of the mentors have some tie to Iowa. Some are familiar faces in the Corridor, while some are crazy-smart people I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of before.
The Accelerator programming begins August 4, and the building is expected to open in July. Startups: applications to the Accelerator are due June 22. Are you ready?
